Worum geht es in dem Projekt?

In diesem Dokumentarfilm werde ich mit Hilfe von Zeitzeugen aus Belgien und Deutschland die Geschichte des Schiffes erzählen, welches 1950 als "Charlesville" in Antwerpen vom Stapel lief, dann in den 60ern an die DDR verkauft wurde. Sie diente als "Georg Büchner" der DSR als Ausbildungsschiff, später war sie ein Hotel und versank schließlich 2013 in der Ostsee vor Polen bei der Verschleppung nach Klaipeda!
Die Zeitzeugen geben dem Schiff ein Gesicht und eine Seele.

Ziel ist, den vor 6 Jahren begonnenen Dokumentarfilm endlich fertigzustellen und der Welt zu zeigen und den Menschen, die tief mit diesem Schiff verbunden sind, ein Stück ihrer Lebensgeschichte zu verewigen. Die unwiederbringlichen Erinnerungen der Zeitzeugen werden in diesem Film festgehalten, für die Nachwelt und alle, die sich für Geschichte, Schiffe und Seefahrt interessieren.
Der Film enthält zudem noch nie dagewesenes Filmmaterial von der Verschleppung aus Rostock bis zur Lotsenstation Warnemünde.

Wer steht hinter dem Projekt?

Jemand sagte einmal zu mir:

"Du kriegst den Seemann vom Schiff, aber du kriegst das Schiff nicht aus dem Seemann."

Und das stimmt absolut. Ich bin früher selber als Offizier zur See gefahren. Alles, was ich konnte hatte ich an Bord gelernt, von der Pieke auf. Daher weiß ich, wie sehr man mit einem "Stahlpott" verbunden sein kann. Als ich dann nach Rostock kam um eine Umschulung zum Mediengestalter (Bild und Ton) zu machen, wurde ich auch mit der Geschichte der "Georg Büchner" konfrontiert und sie ließ mich nicht mehr los. Sie war der entscheidende Link, die Verbindung zwischen Seemannsleben und Mediengestalter.

6 Jahre Arbeit, Zeit, Geld und auch Herzblut stecken schon in diesem Projekt, das komplett selbst finanziert wird.

What is the project about?

In this documentary film I will tell the story of the ship with the help of contemporary witnesses from Belgium and Germany, which was launched in 1950 as "Charlesville" in Antwerp, then sold to the GDR in the 1960s. She served as "Georg Büchner" of the DSR as a training ship, later she was a hotel and finally sank in 2013 in the Baltic Sea off Poland when she was towed to Klaipeda!
The contemporary witnesses give the ship a face and a soul.

The aim is to finally finish the documentary that began 6 years ago and to show it to the world and to immortalize a piece of their life story for the people who are deeply connected to this ship. The irretrievable memories of contemporary witnesses are captured in this film, for posterity and everyone who is interested in history, ships and seafaring.
The film also contains unprecedented footage from the towing from Rostock to the pilot station in Warnemünde.

Who is behind the project?

Someone once said to me:

"You can get the seaman off the ship, but you can't get the ship out of the seaman."

And that's absolutely true. I used to go to sea as an officer myself. I had learned everything I could from scratch on board. So I know how much you can be connected to a "steel pot". When I came to Rostock to retrain as a media designer (image and sound), I was also confronted with the story of "Georg Büchner" and she never let me go. She was the crucial link, the connection between seaman's life and media designer.

6 years of work, time, money and heart and soul have already gone into this project, which is completely self-financed.
